- Cleo Investigates -- The Making of Murder Is Game Over: Final Fright - 10 July 2026
Murder Is Game Over: Final Fright came as an opportunity in response to a tragedy. Last year, things were going great with this game series, and suddenly, one of the main console manufacturers changed the policy in a way that was not favorable. Instead of being a hardworking developer focused on telling the best murder mystery stories I’m capable of, I was now considered a “spammer” because I release multiple small games. As a result, I had to freeze Murder Is Game Over: Treasure & Terror, the bigger and more ambitious project I originally had planned for this year.I responded by making this smaller game, because it no longer made sense to do the same amount of work and lose half my income. Murder Is Game Over: Final Fright is paced more like a Scooby-Doo episode rather than a Hercule Poirot novel. There are 3 suspects instead of 8. There are fewer than 10 clues. There are only a small…

- 5 "Murder Is Game Over" games in 4 years - 25 October 2025
In 2022, 4 years ago from today, I released the original Murder Is Game Over game on Steam. The project surpassed my very modest expectations, and I went on to produce 4 additional games in the series. Murder Is Game Over: Streaming Death, Murder Is Game Over, Deal Killer, Murder Is Game Over: The Blackinton Curse, and Murder Is Game Over: Murder Otaku. Each game is a stand-alone mystery for Cleo and Detective Guy, and the games can be played in any order. Each game has its own unique set of features, and (I’ve been told that) each game adds more finesse. If you enjoyed the original game, I urge you to check out the others for more spooky mystery fun. Thanks for 4 years of support!
- Murder Is Game Over Series Retrospective – Part 1 - 24 July 2024
After developing and releasing 3 “Murder Is Game Over” titles in 2 years, I’ve had some time to pause and reflect on what I like most about each one. These are my thoughts on the series as a whole. Best exploration – Murder Is Game Over My initial concept for this game was to have a murder mystery that emphasized exploration much more inspired by RPGs than adventure games. In hindsight, the world design from the first game was well done in terms of giving the player freedom to move around the world at their choosing. The map shape is based on a series of interconnecting circles including the castle's ground floor, connecting the second floor and the sealed wing, and finally, a secret passage connecting the castle to the surrounding countryside. The method of murder also relies heavily on the way the map makes a seemingly inaccessible area easy to reach through a clever shortcut. Not onl…
