- Patch Notes [BU39/0.6.9] - 19 August 2026
Hey Players! Here is a minor bugfix patch and two new options in the settings menu to change gameplay! Stamina has also been greately affected to improve gameplay instead of limiting it. New Added option to toggle hunger/thirst system. Added option to adjust world shadow strength. Changes Added rabbit runaway animation again. Rabbit now jumps into nest when hiding from player instead of suddenly disappearing. Increased lantern light radius. Changed the headlamp light from white/orange to red to indicate consequences of usage to wildlife. Increased the fall of distance of the headlamp light. Added a delay to the “completed” pop-up message that appears when picking up notes. Stamina is now only reduced by swimming, but will still affect hunger and thirst. Removed “Global Illumination” settings as Lumen is disabled. Removed translation from the steam page as it displayed a fully translated…
- Patch Notes [BU38/0.6.8] - 30 July 2026
Hey Players! Minor update coming your way to fix a few bugs and two new additions. Sawhorses / Vertical Chopper - Visual Update This patch opens up for a new visual guide that I'd like to start testing. If you would like it to be toggleable or have any feedback, don't hesitate to reach out! ːsteamhappyː If the visual update works well I'll perhaps implement it on other breakable objects too (like trees and cages). Building - Refund System There is also a new refund system for building. Previously, while constructing buildings, one would press "X" and the building disappears without any refunding (we can ignore the minor broken refunding system I tested out). Now it works the same as building structures, but reversed. Press X on a building and the last resource you built with is refunded. Keep pressing X until the building disappears to refund what is refundable and to remove the buildin…
- Patch Notes [BU37/0.6.7] - 27 June 2026
Hello Players! If you have found yourself looking at the big mountain and thinking "I want to cross it", then this patch welcomes you to do such! The island was originally split up with the idea of letting players beta test on one side and then be presented with a fuller, more complete game on the other side. Hiccups happen and since it became a greater and more time consuming task than I had anticipated, I'm giving earlier access to the rest of the map. With that said, there will be changes and there will be more additions added in newer updates. This is just the set up for the end of the story. The goal is to open up bits of interactions and key-events to the story per update, while still releasing a few minor game-mechanic based updates inbetween. IMPORTANT NOTICE: Due to a lot patchwork programming to fix old item IDs and issues with buildings not saving properly/duplicating when sa…
- Devlog #7 - 3 May 2026
Hey Players! In the previous devlog, we spoke about environment changes, new items, several visual updates and the progress of the next big patch. I also made a small promise to keep up with the devlogs no matter how little progress had happened since the previous. So today I'm sharing this update to tell you that the patch is still in the works. I'm still in the process of debugging some of the new environments and other new additions. Therefore I don't have a lot to add to the progress list, but I present to you a new visual that will be added in the update! To avoid pop-ups as much as possible, there are different construction signs and other visuals to give you, the player, a heads-up that an area of the map is not finished and will be updated later down the road. So when you explore the new patch, keep an extra eye out for them and be prepared to revisit the sites in later patches!…
- Devlog #6 - 18 March 2026
Hey Players! The latest addition to Friend or Foe took a little longer than expected. Some of you may have noticed the 12 month absence on the store page, or the general absence this past year, but I'm happy to announce I'm getting closer to a release for the new expantion of the map! I have held back on releasing this earlier as the planning for the new expansion had to go through a redesign and I never want to publish anything without a certain quality. A lot of the environments also went through different concepts before the final design which I'm excited to share later down the road. I never want to promise an exact date, but I'm currently in the optimizing and testing stage so I'm hopeful that it will be within the next month or two. Today I wanted to share some of the incoming changes and additions with attached screenshots. Environment changes (Preview: Changes may occur) The tre…
- Devlog #5 - 24 June 2025
Hello players! In this short fifth devlog, lets talk story progression and reputation.StoryPrevious devlog, I discussed the state of the other side of the island, and in the past few months, I have spent time on planning and finishing the greyboxing of different areas to prepare for the end of the game. Since I know some of you are eager to progress in the story (An honerable mention (contains minor spoilers) is the player that wanted an early sneak peak to the other side of the island), I want to give you the key to the other side. In previous updates, there has been a focus on improving mechanics, creating wildlife and giving the player freedom to explore and build however they see fit. And while the end is many updates away, the next update will allow further exploration for all players. You can expect to access new placeslearn the inside out of every available walkable pathbut you w…
- Patch Notes [BU36/0.6.6] - 26 February 2025
Hello Players! The AI update is live with new deer models, new AI behaviors, sound effects and fixes. The focus for this update has been to improve the way that the AI works. As mentioned in the previous devlog (#4), the system was well due for a rework and through the process I have learned a lot to help with the next step of the game. Instead of generic spawning, the animals are now properly attached to their own nests. Destroying these will not only decrease your reputation, but also prevent the animals from roaming around. The players that take the friendly route can expect different bonding experiences with the animals: Rabbits now approach you on their own, allowing you to create your own bunny army. All you have to do is interact with them and they will forever be loyal. Foxes, as skiddish as they are, will no longer ignore the player if they approach, even if the player is frien…
- Devlog #4 - 23 August 2024
Road Ahead What can you expect to see in the near future? For starters, the other side of the island is still not near complete. Nor is it near the end of the block out stage. To save the trouble of possibly redoing some things in the future, I will move the focus over from greyboxing to programming the rest of the story events to make sure that it coexists properly with the current layout. Changes will most likely occur. And while this is going on, I would also like to put some focus into improving current features that is open for all players (including those who do not wish to seek out the other side through cheats). I'm not an experienced developer and I will admit when I make mistakes so that hopefully other aspiring devs out there can learn from my faults: 1. Retexturing (quality of life addition - not prioritized) When I started development, I had vaguely heard about the term "tr…
- Patch Notes [BU35/0.6.5] - 27 July 2024
Hello Players! This new patch is a minor update with the focus on improving different gameplay features, turning legacy movement into the new unreal engine enhanced system and UI changes! In regards to the new input system, there has been a change to the use of the Interaction Key F. Previously, placing resources on structures would use Input E (default) and collecting resources would use Input F (default). The new changes in this patch now lets you place AND collect with the use of Input E (default). To help remember this, the UI has also been changed temporarily to 2D where it showcases which key to use for different interactions as shown in the example below. This patch also involves changes in the highlighted object system. Previously, the whole cart, resource racks and campfire would be highlighted for interaction, and while that worked well for the cart and resource racks, it did…
- Patch Notes [BU34/0.6.4] - 30 May 2024
Hey players! This patch brings about a new cooking system and a set of tutorials regarding the gameplay. There are also several changes to the UI and two new cheat commands. Before we jump into the update, I want to introduce to you a new cheat feature. "Godmode" will allow players, if manually enabled, to roam any aspect of the world. This has been added to give players the option to view new additions as they are under development. In other words, these areas are not available though non-cheated gameplay, so if you want to wait for the full release of the gameplay you simply have to do nothing but wait. Back to this update, lets take a look at the new cooking system: To access this new feature in old saves, you will have to remove the already built campfire and build a new one. This has been added as a feature to make sure that anyone who has any items in the old campfire system will…
- Devlog #3 - 31 March 2024
Happy easter folks and welcome to devlog #3! (And no, this is not an early april fools post) In the last devlog I introduced the idea of turning 2D UI into 3D interactions and that the next patch will include a new cooking system and a new expansion area (temporarily only accessible in God Mode). Since its been a month since the last devlog, here is an update on the progress: Cooking System The developing behind the new cooking system has been put on hold for now since its only missing its final touches: VFX SFX Shading/Texturing Expansion Area and Story At the time of the previous devlog, I had just barely started the blockout face for the new discoverable areas. Still to this day, I'm making changes here and there, but its coming along great and I'm looking forward to sharing it with you all. The goal for the next patch is to have one area blocked out and filled with props and texture…
- Devlog #2 - 14 February 2024
Hey Gamers! Some of you might remember that I had published a roadmap last year. I'm not quite sure if any of you remember the contents of it as it has been removed (due to not wanting to overpromise anything). The state of the game has finally headed towards the ending phase though, and as of the next update I have decided that I would like to give the players a new expansion to explore. What does that include you may ask? The next patch will include "Godmode" that will allow the player to access and view any part of the island. Yes. Everything. I have decided that I won't be making the other side playable/reachable the intended way (without cheats I mean), as I would like that to be its own update, and I want to leave that for when the other side is more polished and actually playable. I was thinking of going ahead and creating a experimental beta version to the game (instead of this…

Hello players! Today marks Friend or Foe's 1 year anniversary on Steam! And what better way to celebrate it than an update? I want to thank you all for the past year. - Devlog #1 - 9 December 2023
Hello everyone! At the start of the launch, I wanted to get into the habit of writing a monthly sneak peak to the community. However, I haven't been true to that in fear of giving false expectations and under-delivering content. Over the past few months, I have seen how that has had an effect on the community, and therefore I want to try again. Starting today with devlog #1. It's been a few months since the previous patch, and I wanted to focus this one on making the game more immersive. I always felt like the game lacked some sort of spirit, and it always pointed back towards the animations and interactions (and the animal behaviors, but I'll mention that in a moment). Therefore, for this patch, I have spent time turning the game from a "first person" game, to a "true first person" game. This might not seem like a big deal to some, and some of you may ask "did the developer just spent…

- Patch Notes [BU30] - 27 July 2023
Hello players! Another update is now out that features more explorable options, and also a few reworks of already explorable POIs. It also includes a world map that can be accessed from the start, and an added cheat window for those who would like to play in a creative building mode. Some of the POIs are still under development, but I have choosen to release them in this update to allow you to test it out and provide feedback for improvements. This update also contains some optimization features, including the decision to not use Lumen as the default rendering mode anymore, as it doesnt seem necessary for this project. As always, I hope you like the update, and I would love to hear what you think of the new additions and changes. Below is a full overview of the new additions: New Added a cheat window. (List of cheats) Added a world map that can be accessed from the start by pressing (M)…

- Patch Notes [BU27] Part 1 - 30 April 2023
Hello everyone! In this first part of the UI update, there have been some changes to the UI and lore for the game. The major changes include German translation French translation Norwegian translation A book that stores notes, the to-do list and reputation Visual update for the interface New main menu and loading screen New interaction UI Updated notes lore If there is anything that you notice could be translated better, or differently, then don’t hesitate to let me know via the forums. Important side note: If you are playing on a save file from when the game launched, or from the latest update, I would recommend that you create a new save file to prevent a sudden corruption of the file that has been a result of some of the old code being stuck in the save files. You can still play on your old saves, but you might experience a sudden data-loss. As always, let me know what you think of t…
