  • Changelog 15 September 2026 - 15 September 2026

FIXESSCENARIO EDITOR: fixed an issue where route points would jump to 0,0 when dragged.SCENARIO EDITOR: fixed an issue where route editing would prevent dragging and zooming.SCENARIO EDITOR: fixed an issue where NPC mech loadouts would not save.SCENARIO EDITOR: fixed an issue where parameters of Scripted Events would get reset if you connected an Effector.SCENARIO EDITOR: fixed an issue where Points would only rename on the second attempt.Fixed an issue where NPCs ordered to Attack Point would try to path below the terrain and just wiggle about.Fixed an issue where NPC mechs would run around trying to get a firing line on their bombardment target. Now they will seek a vantage point, stand there and start blasting.Note for Scenario Editors:I'm making ongoing improvements to certain special NPC actions - you may find that behaviours like 'attack point' require a little finessing to work w…

  • Hotfix: 7 September 2026 - 7 September 2026

This hotfix makes the following changes:Fixed player unit not spawning in the mission editor (it works now, promise).Fixed some issues with forcing player loadout in the mission editor.Fixed an issue causing building-destruction particle effects to spawn in the center of the building, not the impact point.Fixed an issue where collision-with-building damage was way too intense, often insta-killing the player on contact with a building. Sorry.

  • Hotfix: 6 September 2026 - 6 September 2026

This hotfix makes the following changes:Fixed an issue which caused NPCs to not spawn, or spawn with incorrect loadouts in skirmish matches.Fixed an issue where mechs would not avoid ragdolled allies when pathing, causing 'bullying' behaviour where they would repeatedly knock each other over.

  • Hotfix: 4 September 2026 - 4 September 2026

This hotfix makes the following changes:Fixed an issue preventing the control remapper menu from opening.Updated Demo with latest changes.

  • The Graphics & Destruction Update - 0% discount - 3 September 2026

Greetings, operators.Your copy of OVRLRD has been upgraded with improved visuals and a new physically-simulated building destruction system. Read on for more details, or scroll to the bottom for a tl;dr and the full changelog.Making OVRLRD less ugly (again)Those of you who were there back in the day will remember that OVRLRD has always been ugly - I'm hoping this is the final graphical overhaul. Here's OVRLRD's development history in three images:OVRLRD's terrain system has been a constant bugbear - it needs to support large environments, big differences in scale, and physical interaction with the player (not to mention VR rendering). I've had to go back and forth on these systems a lot in the past to try and strike a good balance between performance, clarity, lookin-nice and being workable as a developer.Lookin-nice has taken a back seat for a while now, so I took some time this month…

  • UPCOMING: The Destruction Update! - 3 August 2026

Hi, operators! I got sidetracked again. Here's a long boring devlog about what's coming in the next update, coming sooner than you would think: Boring anecdote below. Skip past this section to see the new destruction system. My first introduction to mech games as a youngun was, oddly, MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf (unless you count a demo for A.M.O.K. that came free with PC Gamer). It never makes it onto lists of The Fourteen Best Retro Games (You'll Love #5's Referral Links For Cheap Fibreglass Insulation), but it's got bundles of charm, nice weighty arcade combat, and some really nifty tech for handling building destruction.Similar to the approach of classic Xbox 7/10 Mercenaries, once a building took enough damage it would play a big impressive particle effect, sink rapidly into the ground and leave a pile of rubble behind. MechAssault 2 also had a nice graphical trick where if you bumped…

  • Hotfix: 12 June 2026 - 12 June 2026

Thanks to the Russian (I think) demo player who submitted an anonymous error log, I've found that a loadout parsing issue was causing some players to get stuck in the hangar. This hotfix addresses that, as well as improving performance in Routine Maneouvres. Again, thank you to all players who submit error logs! Every time this happens I basically get immediately notified that there's a bug in the code, so I can go and fix it in about ten minutes. Very useful! Cheers for playing.

  • Changelog 10 June 2026 - 10 June 2026

CHANGES - Squad loadouts now persist between career mode missions. - NPCs no longer have unlimited ammunition, except for certain basic weapons (this will change eventually). - Missile spam is now significantly reduced. - NPCs now treat the player as a navmesh obstacle, and will actively modify navigation paths to avoid collision. - Added missing preview images for legacy campaign missions. - Starling no longer has a vertical-first gimbal configuration (no more horizon tilt). - Further iteration on Zaliznyy layout. FIXES - Fixed low frame rates on Routine Manoeuvres, caused by excessive grass render distance and tree density. - Fixed an issue causing NPCs to have reduced cooldown on some weapons. - Fixed a number of issues with convoy navigation and 'ambush' missions. Convoys should now act like convoys. - Fixed an issue causing squadmates to not show up in the COMMS screen. - Fixed som…

  • Non-VR Input System Overhaul - 21 May 2026

Hi again, Operators.Things are going at a fair old clip now, so updates will probably be more regular from here on out.In response to recent feedback and with the help of some dedicated volunteer playtesters, I've overhauled the input system used by OVRLRD to support alternative inputs. This means that if you've previously tried playing with HOTAS, keyboard, gamepad or anything else and found it buggy or annoying, then that should be more or less fixed. Also some other fun stuff at the end.RewiredI admit that the previous input binding system was rubbish. I hacked it together, underestimating the amount of work needed to properly support it.Instead of trying to fix up a bodge job, I ripped it out and replaced it with a complete solution called Rewired, which is used by many similar games. The UI will be familiar to some of you:You can now rebind most controls to anything you like, with st…

  • Changelog 13 May 2026 - 13 May 2026

Fixed occlusion culling issue that caused many objects to flicker Beware new issue: visual error on snow layer that may cause flashing up in the mountains and on the 'overwatch' mission. This will be fixed soon. Another new issue: pressing F7 to open the cinematic camera in non-VR mode may switch you to VR mode when closing it (controls will not respond). Press F1, then F3, then F1 again to fix. This will be fixed soon as well. Fixed "Killed by the void" error - a bug where completing a campaign mission and proceeding directly to the next one would break everything. Added toggle to suppress or enable non-VR controls Fixed NPCs constantly missile spamming Game now slows time to 1% speed while midgame menu is open Seat adjustment controls moved forward Fixed some HUD elements showing up behind you in pancake mode if you turned all the way around Increased brightness of TGP crosshair displ…

  • The Do or Die Update - 22% discount - 5 May 2026

Uh oh, operators. It really has been a while this time. I'm gonna make this quick, because the changelog is pretty monstrous. Skip down for a tl;dr.OVRLRD started as a hobby project in evenings and weekends around my day job as a programmer. I really didn't think anyone else would care about it, but since releasing in Early Access more than 3,000 people have bought the game - some of you buying it in an extremely rough state in order to give it a chance to become something better. With so many promising VR projects withering on the vine, it's a real vote of confidence for someone to buy a game in Early Access, especially from a solo dev. This is why I'm locked in a kind of sinister blood pact with OVRLRD's players, and why I decided last year to make this the best game I can make, instead of dropping it as a glorified tech demo and running off to sell something new. This was, it turns out,…

  • HOTFIX: 17 November 2025 - 17 November 2025

This hotfix solves an issue that made certain missions impossible to complete (e.g. Point Defense) due to an issue with objectives never activating. It also adds a delay before combat can begin to give the player a chance to boot up their mech in situations where enemies are nearby at start.

  • HOTFIX: 16 November 2025 - 16 November 2025

Thanks to Discord users for catching these bugs! This hotfix solves an issue that made campaign missions like Search & Destroy and Anti-Air unplayable, as well as softlocking the player on some career mode missions. Sorry about that.Fixed an issue where 'defend structure' or 'destroy all enemies' -type objectives would instantly self-complete and softlock the player, preventing menus from opening.Fixed an issue where music stings would fail to play.Reduced volume of infantry combat barks.Fixed a small visual issue with the clipboard.Have fun!

  • The Scenario Editor & HOTAS Update - 20% discount - 15 November 2025

Hello, operators. This update, as with every update but PARTICULARLY this one, will probably have some big bugs that I've missed. If you're lucky enough to be the first to spot one, please let me know using ingame bug reporter so I can race to push the inevitable hotfix before anyone else notices. Early Access Gaming. It's been a while! Yet again! The last update back in June was a general infrastructure overhaul and mass of bugfixes. I've got my eye on a number of gameplay improvements and new content which I've been working on, but before that can happen there were two big things I really wanted to get working. The Scenario EditorThe first is something I've wanted for ages, and which I need for the new campaign work - a fully-featured, easy-to-use ingame scenario editor in the spirit of my favourite games from the 90s and 2000s. You can read more about the scenario editor in the last news…

  • UPCOMING: Scenario Editor Mark II - 15 August 2025

Greetings, operators. This next update is taking longer than expected, so I thought it'd be good to let you all know what's going on behind the scenes. Or rather, BEYOND THE SCENES. (That's a joke about Unity's scene graph system.)So! The scenario editor's been missing from the game for a while now. You can still use it on the old-version beta branch, but it's clunky and missing features, and the workshop is disabled. Is it ever coming back? What's going on?Since the world's gaming press has VERY rudely not yet approached me for an interview about my insane steel battalion revival project, I'm going to write this as if I was being asked questions by an openly hostile interviewer, similar to that one nightmare I keep having.(If you're a games writer and would like to talk please get in touch on bluesky.)OVRLRD'S campaign is unpolished. It sure is! I'm actually surprised the game hasn't re…

  • Changelog 29 June 2025 - 30 June 2025

Thanks to everyone who's been playing and submitting feedback and bug reports! The playercount and amount of feedback appear to have increased significantly in the last couple of weeks, which is really helping me to close in on some higher-level design problems now that a lot of the core mechanics are in a better place.I'm pushing out this patch to fix a number of critical issues (whoopsie) and integrate a couple cool new features people have been enjoying on the test branch. The next thing I'm working on is a big overhaul to the campaign. I've finally got the tools and frameworks to build out the narrative-style campaign I've always envisioned for OVRLRD, and now it's time to get the thing moving. No promises since things always change, but I'm aiming to replace the current campaign with a new one of a similar length (6-8 missions with a strong narrative drive) that serves as a proper i…

  • Performance Improvement, Campaign Bugfixes and Forest Burning - 15 June 2025

Thanks to everyone who's bought and played OVRLRD in the last few days! And a big thanks to those of you who've been providing feedback and bug reports. This is a quick patch to address the most urgent issues - to say thanks, it also includes some fun stuff I've been working on to do with trees physicalisation. Full changelog below, but here are the key points: Fixed a serious performance problem caused by accidentally rendering all grass and trees twice. Fixed an issue where completing a campaign mission would return you to the briefing, not the debriefing. Added a temporary button to escape back to the main menu from the campaign debriefing, to avoid softlocks. Made it so that trees obscure NPC vision, shatter when knocked, and can be burned to stumps with weapons. Changelog: 15 June 2025 ADDITIONS -You can now burn trees and raze forests with explosive or beam weapons. -Added 'skippi…

  • The Secret Base Update - 20% discount - 7 June 2025

Hello, operators. This update, as with every update, will probably have some big bugs that I've missed. If you're lucky enough to be the first to spot it, please let me know (using the new ingame bug reporter!) so I can race to push the inevitable hotfix before anyone else notices. This is kind of a tradition now. Thank you. It's been a while! The Graphics Update came out back in March, and the response was really encouraging. Feedback suggests that people liked the new visuals and they understood what I'm going for with the new megamap, Zaliznyy. The update, however, as is tradition with OVRLRD, was not very polished. I've been developing this game for nearly four years now, and some things have begun to creak under the strain of things on top of them. I figured a good thing to do would be to straighten those things out, to make it easier and faster to add more content immediately afterwa…

  • HOTFIX: 3 April 2025 - 2 April 2025

-Fixed a softlock in the hangar when starting a campaign or skirmish mission.

  • Changelog 2 April 2025 - 2 April 2025

Thanks to the anonymous user who submitted a bug report earlier today! I was able to track down a number of issues thanks to this. Hotfix follows: HOTFIXES: -Fixed an issue where players would briefly see an empty briefing room when loading missions without a briefing. -Quick players could throw the lever in this moment, sequence-breaking the loading process and breaking the game completely. -If your hangar UI glitched out badly, this may have been why. -Tweaked ocean lighting and skybox visuals on Zaliznyy. -Fixed error spam and glitchiness in weapons training mission, to do with drones not having a proper line-of-sight target transform. -Fixed some other minor errors in mission flow.
