- Field Notes - Naming the Trail - 4 May 2026
Hello b’ys,Before we could move forward with the project, we needed a name that felt right. In this post, we wanted to walk you through how we ended up with The Caribou Trail, from early ideas to community feedback.1. The BrainstormWe started with an open brainstorming phase across the team. Everyone contributed. There were no constraints, no filtering. The goal was volume first. Some names were serious, others more abstract, some tied directly to history, others to emotion or tone.We then organized everything into a shared board, grouping ideas by themes: historical references, emotional tone, narrative focus, or even words that evoked something unique about the project. Some of the names that didn’t make the initial cut:Ghosts of GallipoliLetters from GallipoliThe Last of Them (someone on the team is reaaaaally passionate about a certain post-apocalyptic game…)We Was ThereBefore the Le…

Where the sea shapes your days. Where everyone knows your name. Where life feels small, but full. That’s where we come from. The Caribou Trail begins here, in Newfoundland.A place of fishermen, workers, families. A place where stories are shared over a drink, a laugh, or a long night by the water. And then, one day, men leave.- FisherPresenting NewfoundlandOur story begins in Newfoundland, an island off the easternmost coast of Canada, known for its rugged coastline, fishing traditions, and tight-knit communities. Life there is shaped by the sea. Generations of families have lived off fishing, mining, and maritime work. But more than anything, Newfoundlanders are known for their warmth, humor, and deep connection to one…

- Field Notes - From Home - 7 April 2026
St. John’s, NewfoundlandWeather: Cooler than yesterday. Hello b’ys,We received word from the front this morning. They say the land out there does not welcome you kindly. The ridges look the same at dusk as they do at dawn. Dust settles in your eyes. Landmarks vanish when the light shifts. You learn quickly that no one is there to point the way for you.And that is something we chose to keep.In The Caribou Trail, there is no marker showing your exact position on the map. When you open it, it will not guide you step by step. It only reflects what I know. As I move forward, as I recognize the land, the map updates with me.You are not following an icon. You are learning the ground. We made this choice so that orientation comes from attention.A ridge you remember. A path you recognize. A direction you choose because it feels right. There is no score. No kill count. No constant instructions pressin…
