  Magicland Year in Review 2025In many ways, 2025 did not go as planned, but I still hit the majority of my goals for this year and made great progress. Rather than spending all my time building content like I had hoped, I took a lot of time to refine the systems and design of the game in ways I cannot even BEGIN to fully express the importance of.   After another year of working on this fabulous project, I have something very exciting to share today!Magic-lovers, I present to you... behold:It's the demo again, but better50% MORE music!100% MORE gameplay!!200% MORE cutscenes!!!So, why did I do this? Isn't this slowing things down? No, in fact I probably just saved myself an enormous amount of time in the future. When I refactored the game's dialogue system to use Yarn Spinner instead of... string Lists... I left a lot of lose threads unwound. Sure, it kind of worked for basic dialogue, but cutscenes? Complex events? Multi-NPC conversations? No, it was all still pretty dysfunctional and broken. So I figured before I made 4 more entire areas using a half-functional dialogue engine, I should make sure everything is good-to-go in the areas I already made.   2025 Progress Update!Hello my beautiful followers. This year so far has been very exciting and encouraging for Magicland. Without further ado, I present to you: CONTENT (also peep those image carousels for more)Magic City: 70% complete (!!!)Farm Town: 60% completeEnchanted Forest: 40% completeDesert: 1% complete (barely started)Swamp: No change from last update (30% complete)Other Areas: ???% completeWow! Look at that progress. I really focused in on the areas that I was the most excited about and had ideas for, like Magic City.   Hello! Welcome to the very first... 2024 Year in Review 2024 was an important year for the project. I had my first ever playtests. Scope creep was nipped in the bud, establishing a more attainable vision. The demo was released! There are so many things to cover, but I'll start from the beginning First, things got off to a rocky start when I spent 4 months implementing a game feature that I ultimately had to cut. I tried to make a full-on first-person dungeon crawler section that would have been accessed after you go down the dark staircase. It was a cool idea and all, but as I would have wanted to make multiple of these "alternate game modes" for the full game, ~5 months of dev time (I started working on it before the new year) just for this one isolated experience did not seem like a good investment of time.
