  • Hotfix #2 for Practice Mode Update - 9 June 2022

One more fix: Fixed crash when selecting levels in PLAY+ mode that are in-progress in PLAY mode.

  • Hotfix for Practice Mode Update - 8 June 2022

This update contains just one fix for a small bug in the latest update: Fixed case where resume/restart appears (instead of start) on the level select screen when you start a level, complete the checkpoint, restart back to the first checkpoint, then return to the level select screen.

  • Practice Mode, Improved Restart From Checkpoint, and Other Fixes - 6 June 2022

New Practice Mode: replay specific level sections without getting a score or rank Improved “Restart from Checkpoint” feature: restart from any previous checkpoint (not just current or previous). NOTE: you can only restart from any previous checkpoint on new level playthroughs after updating and not on playthroughs from before this update. Fixed “phantom turns” that can appear under certain conditions in Level 6-9. Checkpoint score/rank tally is displayed at the end of the final section of Level 9 if the level has been previously completed. This helps those attempting to S-rank Level 9. Minor menu appearance and behavior fixes and tweaks Fixed potential hang that can occur when spamming the pause or quick restart button at the end of a level, just before the score tally screen Fixed visual issues on pause menu when the game scene is partially faded out Fixed incorrectly swapped X/Y butto…

  • What we've been playing - 8 October 2021

Hello! Welcome back to our regular feature where we write a little bit about some of the games we've found ourselves playing over the last few days. Okay, the bad news: sincere apologies but only Donlan had time to contribute this time. The good news is a lot of other people were too busy because they're putting together a huge feature for next week. Enjoy! If you fancy catching up on some of the older editions of What We've Been Playing, here's our archive. I've spent hours with Mystic Pillars, and I've held off writing it up so far because I'm still struggling to put into words exactly what you do. This puzzle game is an ingenious spin on Mancala, a game that I absolutely adore, but it takes the risky approach of building its play around numbers, and I've always found numbers extremely daunting in puzzle games. • The 35 best ultrawide games on PC - 18 November 2020

Ultrawide gaming monitors are the kind of hardware that might seem too excessive, maybe even a bit too gamer to bother with for playing games on PC, especially when their demanding resolutions often require powerful graphics cards to make the most of them. Once you try one, though, there’s no going back. I’ve been a big fan of ultrawide gaming monitors for years now, mostly because supported PC games just look fantastic on them. And that’s why I’ve put together this list of the best ultrawide games on PC – to show you exactly what they look like in the flesh, complete with GIFs and photos of them running on an ultrawide monitor so you can see them in motion with your own peepers. • The best rhythm games on PC 2023 - 28 July 2020

Looking for the best rhythm games on PC? There are few things in life better than music, so obviously there are even fewer things in life better than music and rhythm games. Music evokes more emotional responses than any other and usually does so within a few short minutes. Games can make us feel things over time, but music is often much more immediate. With that in mind, we've put together a list of the best rhythm games around, that are guaranteed to stay with you long after the last note plays. From 2D indie games with a solid beat to lightsaber-wielding VR games , our list of the best rhythm games spans all genres. Some can teach your how to play a particular instrument, while others allow you to repurpose your own music library. We should also mention that Tetris Effect was considered for the list but arguably doesn't make rhythm its focus, so it misses out. In any case, you really…

  • Thumper Maintenance Update (Keyboard Remap Hang) - 26 May 2020

The latest update fixes a reported hang when attempting to remap the keyboard "SELECT" input on the OPTIONS > CONTROLS screen.

  • Try Google Stadia for free with nine games in a new trial - 9 April 2020

Google have now made their cloud gaming service, Stadia, completely free to anyone who has a Gmail account. That means you no longer have to buy their pricey Premiere Edition to get started, all you have to do is sign up online. On top of that, to help keep people entertained in isolation they’ve made their premium subscription service, Stadia Pro, free for two months. It’s basically a free trial that gives you full access to nine games, which sounds like a pretty good deal to me. (more…)

  • Thumper Maintenance Update (VR issues) - 15 February 2020

The latest update fixes a few issues related to VR mode (both Steam VR and Oculus) Fixed re-centering VR position and orientation (hold ESC key OR start/pause button) Fixed pausing via keyboard (ESC key) in VR mode Playing in VR mode no longer requires the Thumper desktop window to be focused. This was causing issues where the game appeared to hang when launching into VR mode.

The latest update fixes minor visual issues with the "DX9 Legacy" version of the game. The other (DX11) versions are not affected.

We've updated Thumper's Original Soundtrack to take advantage of some new Steam features. First, you can now browse, manage, and filter the soundtrack from your Steam library. You can also play it directly from the Steam library: Finally, high-quality FLAC audio is optionally available for the soundtrack. To get it, make sure you've checked the "Download high-quality audio files" in your Settings > Music dialog. The FLAC files will be installed into a "flac" folder in your soundtrack installation directory.

The latest update fixes a startup crash caused by certain ASIO audio drivers.

  • Have You Played Thumper? - 17 January 2020

Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day, perhaps for all time. Thumper leaves no room for anything but itself. It floods from your eyes to your ears to your brainstem, dissolving conscious experience into grinds and jumps and failure. The rhythm won’t release you. You’ll have to earn your freedom. (more…)

  • The 32 best PC games that demand to be played in ultrawide - 19 December 2019

There’s an old saying in gaming monitor circles that once you’ve gone ultrawide, there’s no going back. Indeed, having had the vast Samsung CRG9 hogging my desk for a bit last month, I’m inclined to agree. But what do games actually look like on a screen this wide? It’s one thing looking at lovely wallpapers, but another thing entirely to have a game occupy your entire field of vision. To find out, and more importantly show you , I’ve rounded up all the very best ultrawide PC games, complete with pictures of what they actually look like in the flesh, plus oodles of lovely GIFs so you can see how it works in action. If you thought playing Red Dead Redemption 2 in 5120×1440 was impressive, you ain’t seen nothing yet. (more…)

  • Thumper Maintenance Update - 26 November 2019

A few small fixes are in the latest update: Fixed case where game will run in slow motion in Oculus VR mode Windows 10 exe is only auto-launched when using Windows 10 build 15063 or later. If it was working for you and you want to keep using it, you can add "-chroma" to your launch options (Library > Thumper > Properties > GENERAL > SET LAUNCH OPTIONS...)

  • Thumper (Final??) Hotfix - 3 October 2019

Of course our "final" update has to be followed by a "final" hotfix! Limit update rate of Xbox One controller vibration in Windows 10 exe to 30Hz to fix trigger vibration issues Allow alternate key for menu “select” to be remapped on keyboard controls screen Fixed issue with some keys not working when mapped to gameplay actions Fixed minor input issues on keyboard controls screen Prevent boss bonus thumps from unlocking shields when pounded. This prevents bugs that happen when a shield is prematurely unlocked before a boss phrase begins (thanks Hannes!). Fixed minor issues with DualShock 4 controller in Windows 10 exe Disable vibration on previous controller when hot swapping to a new controller This should address all known issues we plan to fix. Of course, we'll still be looking out for any new major issues.

  • Thumper (Final?) Update - 1 October 2019

Our latest update includes many small usability improvements and fixes. We're not planning further updates at this time, but we'll respond to any new major issues. A special thanks to all the players who've helped us find and fix everything! Added controller/keyboard hot swapping support Improved button/key remapping on controls screen Added stereo vibration effects for Oculus Touch (Oculus VR Mode) Removed the three “Win10” launch options. Windows 10 is now detected by the default executable and the Windows 10 compatible executable is automatically launched. Added automatic pause when active controller is disconnected Added automatic pause when SteamVR dashboard is displayed (SteamVR Mode) Added automatic pause when Oculus system menu is displayed (Oculus VR Mode) Added credits to options menu Fi…
