  • From The Bunker to Still Breathing: How a Small Idea Became much more Ambitious - 8 August 2026

"The Bunker was the beginning. Still Breathing is everything we discovered that idea could become."The narrative experience created for a Game Jam was only the beginning. With Still Breathing, we have expanded the concept with 3D exploration, survival, combat, cards, crafting and a much deeper story.Still Breathing is one of the most special projects my son and I have developed together under the Dad & Son Games label. Although we belong to different generations, we share the same passion for video games. I bring the experience of growing up with the classics, while he brings a perspective much closer to today's games and players. That combination has shaped many of the decisions we have made throughout development.Films, TV series, comics, books and, of course, video games have always been a major part of our lives. For us, the most important thing was to tell a story capable of convey…

  • Shadow, your dog, comes with you now to face the end of the world - 25 July 2026

Shadow is now visibleStill breathing is a game about surviving inside a bunker for some weeks while starvation and illness affects you and your family. In order to find supplies, you have to go out to scavenge the remains of your world. When you go out, you may decide to go with or without your dog. And, until now, if you went out with your dog there was no visual or sound feedback of the dog being by your side. After some initial playtests one of the users pointed out that concept: "I don't feel the dog is coming with me". And he was damn right. So now, we've been working to add your loyal dog to the experience. Now you'll feel him by your side, breathing, barking or whining. You can pet him, and he can put you in a trouble or two if he makes too much noise. But now, going with him doesn't fell completely alone. We're really happy on the result. We also made an effort in integrating it wit…

  • Rebuilding the radio, one comment at a time - 19 July 2026

When «Still Breathing» was a game jam entry back in its Ren'Py days, the radio was the simplest thing we could put together: a bar, a green zone, hold a key until it filled up. It did the job at the time. But some of the first people to try the newer build told us, kindly, that it felt a little thin — and that it reminded them too much of the combat. They were right. So we rebuilt it from scratch, and this time we wanted it to feel like an actual radio. Now there are two moments to it. First you go hunting for the station with the center dial, and here's the part we love: you hear it before you see it. Voices drift up out of the static as you get close, and the waveform on the little screen starts to take shape. The band is narrow on purpose — overshoot it and the voice fades again, and you have to ease back until you find it. Once you've caught the signal, the side knobs let you shape th…

  • The cards finally do something: a combat deck built from what you've unlocked - 16 July 2026

A bit of honesty to open with: combat has always been the weakest part of *Still Breathing*. The bunker holds up. The scavenge trips hold up. The conversations I'm genuinely proud of. But the fights? You traded blows, watched a stamina bar go up and down, timed a couple of defenses, and that was more or less it. Functional. Not much going on in your head while you played.Meanwhile the game has this whole collection of cards. Events that happened to you, visitors who knocked on the door at night, skills you earned — you unlock them as you play and they pile up in a little gallery. They look nice. My teenage son writes the events behind them, and some of them are the best short writing in the game. But mechanically they just sat there. A trophy shelf. I kept looking at that shelf thinking there had to be a reason for it beyond "look what you found." So here's what we did. During a fight,…

  • "Still Breathing" has a new cover! - 24 May 2026

We have a new cover! We’ve spent the last few weeks integrating all the systems we’d developed—some of them separately—and haven’t had time to pay much attention to our Steam page. But we’ve finally found a moment to redo something we’ve been thinking about for days: a new cover art. And here it is. We held a vote among a bunch of our friends, and in the end, this was the winner:This cover art adheres to several of Steam’s design guidelines and perfectly captures the game’s essence—the anxiety, horror, and atmosphere that players will encounter. We hope you like it.In addition, we’ve updated a lot of the in-game screenshots, showcasing scenes that have evolved significantly since January. This is the workshop. Here you will be able to improve your bunker's systems, craft weapons or consumables. The looting page now also features the looted container to make it more immersive. And we upd…

  • Our exploration engine is ready - 8 May 2026

It's been a long journey since development started in Ren'Py for Gamejolt's Game Jam, where we ranked #1 in the narrative category. After that, we put all our effort into making the game more than just a narrative experience with moral choices. We wanted the player to explore and feel that the world has fallen apart — and that you need to risk your life to get resources for your family. We ported the game to Godot and after that we started to build an entirely new mechanics of exploration in 360º.The new engine opened so many opportunities that we started building more and more effects, and structural possibilities that now it can be used as an entire game engine for narrative stories, scripting them in json with an html editor that let you build a story as complex as you may dare. The game looks INCREDIBLE now. And we're having so much fun filling now the game with fun stories to play..…
