- Equin 2: The Warren Peace releases this Friday, Nov 19th! - 17 November 2021
The time is now! After a pretty arduous year and a half plus it's just about that time. Equin 2: The Warren Peace, the sequel to DXF Games' best seller Equin: The Lantern will finally be here this Friday, November 19th! When an evil wizard writes the longest and most boring book of all time- which literally bores people to death- it's up to the town stranger to get rid of it. Follow the exploits of your new adventurer in a brand new and improved traditional roguelike game that pits them against all manner of nasty beastie, on a grand quest to return the damn book to its evil master. Featuring four different player classes and playstyles, skill choices for builds, over 250 different weapons / armor / potions you get the idea. With a special focus on gear variation and the ability to upgrade hundreds of items, even that lowly wooden staff can be a weapon of mass destruction.* *Potentially…
- Equin 2: The Warren Peace is part of this year's October Steam Next Event - 1 October 2021
The upcoming sequel to Equin: The Lantern will be part of the October Steam Next event which starts later today, Friday Oct. 1st. Be a part of it and check out the new updated demo. The demo lets you play as the Warrior class though the first two areas. I really think anybody who enjoyed Equin: The Lantern will for sure like The Warren Peace as well. And I even made a new trailer to show off some of the later areas too! https://store.steampowered.com/app/1630690/Equin_2_The_Warren_Peace/ As always any feedback would be super helpful to me. The game is planned for a Nov. 19th 2021 release. Thanks and enjoy the event!!
- The Equin 2: Demo is here! - 12 August 2021
Hey everyone, the Equin 2 demo is finally available! This is a short demo showcasing the first two areas of the game using the Warrior class. The full game has all four playable classes and six areas to adventure through. Fight Monsters, Not the Controls! The game is designed to be easy to learn how to play, yet still challenging to give you a good time. You will be using the space bar to call up a context menu to perform actions most of the time. For example if you walk over a treasure chest, pressing the space bar will give you the choice to open it (or attempt to disarm the trap, if it has one). Walking up to a door while in the dark and pressing the space bar will let you listen to see if you can hear monsters on the other side. These are but two small examples. Plus it'll show you a small picture of what you're interacting with at the bottom. Hoorah! Temple Ruins This joint holds t…
- Equin 2: The Warren Peace, store page is a go-go! - 17 June 2021
Equin 2: The Warren Peace Is my 2nd ever roguelike (and probably my 20th ever completed game, give or take). It takes place in the same world as Equin: The Lantern and makes many significant improvements from my first effort. The Story So Far An evil wizard has written a 6000-page book, "The Warren Peace", which is the longest and most boring book known to man. Sending it to your village, the curious townsfolk started to read it and then PROMPTY BORED THEMSELVES TO DEATH. As the mysterious stranger, you found the book and have vowed to destroy it by returning it FROM WHENCE IT CAME. "The Warren Peace" is also an in-game indestructible item, which can be equipped in your off-hand slot and read in combat. This will put your character to sleep for a single round, but enable him to recover stamina. Stamina is used for fighting and many other actions within the game like fishing or digging u…
- Equin 2: The Warren Peace / Beta Testers Sign Up-O-Rama - 12 May 2021
Good afternoon! Today I'm going to try something a bit different. I'm holding a contest / sign-up for those who'd like to become Equin 2 beta testers! If this doesn't sound like fun, you need not apply of course! As I'm fast approaching an entire year with the project I can safely say that while it's got tons of cooking left to do I'm getting happier and happier with what I have every day I work on it. Even though I playtest the crap out of my games a lot I believe that in order for me to deliver the best overall product in the end I'd need help to fully test things and probably more importantly get early feedback from you guys so that this can happen. I've been a long-standing supporter of NO EARLY ACCESS, and while maybe other devs would take what I currently have and try to sell it to make some easy money that's not what I'm going to do. I figure this way I can get the help and feedb…
- Equin 2: The Warren Peace / Progress Report, April 2021 - 26 April 2021
Hello! We are coming up on almost a year since I started to make Equin: The Lantern's sequel, "Equin 2: The Warren Peace". Why is it in quotation marks? Nobody knows! Here today though I want to show a few screenshots of what I've been working on this past month (when I can), as my fourth child was just born a couple weeks ago so the goings have been slow. In-game Help Menu It might not seem like much (and it just might not be) but I've added a small help option the player can access through pressing.... H.. For help. Wow, how innovative! Anyhow you can get a small rundown of some topics from here at any time while playing the game. Here for example is some more detailed information about the Strength attribute, including some behind the scenes crap like how it influences critical hits and attack power. To make room for this option to show on the main screen I just got rid of the "CONTR…
- Equin 2: The Warren Peace - 22 March 2021
Lot of stuff this week! Equin 2: The Warren Peace Made the official title public. I love me some puns. Started (and basically finished) the 3rd playable dungeon area, a crypt of all things. Undead are SCARY. The Crypt's floors have a high chance to be in complete darkness. Additionally there's a ~20% or so chance for that floor's water supply to be polluted right off the bat. New enemy ability to heal themselves. Luckily not every enemy can do this. New enemy "blood bat", which can morph into a vampire in mid-battle. These guys are super strong if they change form. They have a unique battle option called bloodlust where (if active) they will heal 25% of their max HP whenever they touch and damage you. Vampires came out great. Tweening animation and everything, and it doesn't look like shit to boot! Lots of new mundane items like the Painted Shield and Studded Leather armor. The armor ha…
- Hi! It's the.. COVID-19 update?? - 27 February 2021
Hello! I have a small but important update for you all today, the first in almost an entire year (gasp!) As some of you may already know I've been hard at work on this game's sequel, but that doesn't mean ol' ETL can't get any love still. Here are the changes: Some starting Bonuses were improved- XP went from +15% to +20%, Gold earned from +25% to +30%, MDEF went from +3 to +4. Attack +2 and all stats +1 remain unchanged because that's pretty good as they were. Regular chest spawns were SLIGHTLY reduced, from 20% to 12%. In the sequel game I have less chests but made them more impactful. So that's what I'm doing here as well, because... Gold chest chance was increased kind of a lot. Shadow chest chance was also inceased kind of a lot, and a TON during Graveyard / Treasure / and Champion floor events. The game's title page has little sparklie doos over "Equin: The Lantern" The sequel's w…
- Equin 2, Event Rooms - 3 February 2021
Hello! I'm working on making some random events for the Equin sequel, and have several that are pretty funny / unique. How it works is you'd enter a special door (may or not appear on any given floor) and it randomly chooses from X amount of events to display. Further, there can be either 2 or 3 different actions the player can choose this time around (vs. the simple "yes" or "no" in Equin: The Lantern). What's cool is that I can tie the possible choices to stat checks or even player class now, since it's been built from the ground-up. Some examples: You find a locked golden chest w/ an especially dangerous trap. You can either leave it alone or attempt to disarm it (uses DEX x 5%) If you disarm it you'll get a random piece of rare gear that's either pre-upgraded +1 or +2. Failure to pick the lock may very well kill you, but at least you'll get the choice for either. A confused wizard i…
- Christmas Time? Christmas Tree Weapon! - 24 December 2020
Merry Christmas, all! 'Tis my yearly reminder about Equin: The Lantern's special ultra-rare Christmas Tree weapon! If you're new, this thing will be available at the start of any new run all day tomorrow Dec 25th! (There's some other odds and ends you'll get too but the tree is the big one) Christmas Tree One-Handed Magical Spear Equippable by: Everyone, huzzah! ATK +10 STR +2 MAG +2 DEX +2 CON +2 Crit Chance +2% Fire Prone Battle Options: POKE, SPARK (minor electric spell), RECOUP (recover stamina) Equip it, and steamroll the early floors like Santa run amok! However keep in mind since it's y'know A TREE and all it'll get destroyed if hit by fire! See this bat? He slept on the Christmas Tree. Know what happened next? He died, Jill. In sequel news, progress on the game's desert area is really coming along! Aside from new scorpion enemies there's also a chance to get floorwide Firestorms…
- More Equin sequel news - 8 December 2020
Good day, rabbit fans! Today I wanted to share some great news about the sequel: The first area (Temple) is now finished, and I've begun work on the 2nd area (Desert). How do a jungle swampland and arid desert exist side by side like this? That's video games for ya! AREAS Due to UNFORSEEN DIFFICULTIES I've re-imagined the game a bit on how it plays out. Now what happens is you'll have to tackle X amount of floors that have a specific theme, then get taken to a small "Sector Clear" screen, and then you'll head onto the next themed area. At the last floor of each area will be a boss enemy. You don't have to kill it in order to escape but if you do you'll get the possibility of better rewards from said "Sector Clear" screen. These rewards range from permanent stat boosts to upgrade dust to rare and even unique items. As you can see in this screenshot, I've tweaked the Temple area to have t…
- ETL on sale this week, EQ2 progress report! - 2 October 2020
Good morning and happy weekend, all! Something I should've really announced here on Monday but Equin: The Lantern is on sale this week for a whoppin' 75% off. The US price? $1.24! Wowee! So you could either buy a vente cappawhatever at Starbucks or grab a copy for yourself and 20 friends for the same price! -- However now for the meat and potatoes.. more sequel information: -- Ghosts I really like how these look this time around. The graphical style is consistent with the first game, but I'm working to improve upon stuff where I can. Unlike the first game, ghosts in EQ2 are now minor enemies that can spawn randomly from existing graves. You can also get one to sometimes appear by defiling those gravestones occasionally. Ghosts are small and relatively weak but they can pack a little whallop so avoiding them might be a better option until you're properly geared up. What makes them unique…
- Equin 2: Progress Report - 24 August 2020
Hello everyone! I wanted to share some information about how the sequel is coming along today. It will cover what's already in the game, what's not going to be in the game, and what to most likely expect. This time I was smart about it and wrote down the PRECISE moment I started the project, so it's not "about 4 years" or whatever. Screenshots will be included where possible however some may not be 100% current and of course will most likely change (for the better!) later. But not this one, this one is current (2/10/21). WHAT IS IT?? The sequel to Equin: The Lantern is my 2nd ever roguelike. It encompasses most of what a "traditional roguelike" usually has, according to the Berlin interpretation. E2 has: Randomly-generated levels with random gear Turn-Based movement Tile-Based grid Permadeath Aside from those points the game continues the PROUD TRADITION of the first and these make a TR…
- Equin: The Lantern, 'Member Equin: The Lantern? - 5 February 2020
It's been awhile but here we go! 2/5/20: ADDITIONS Chest type monsters have been reworked. Y'know, for diversities' sake! So what's new? Chest monsters no longer move! Chest monsters no longer open their mouths, saying "LOOK, I'M A MONSTER DAMNIT!" Chest monsters will only attack when you try and open them. Makes sense, huh? So in one way this makes them easier to avoid, however opening chests is now a bit of a gamble. I'd say overall this change makes things a bit harder, but it makes more sense to me. I gotta' admit that maybe me playing a lot of Dark Souls remastered and running into stupid Mimics probably had a hand in this too. This change applies to all Chest Monsters, Death Boxes, and the rare boss Bob. There are now 2 more random events that can happen behind those Iron Doors. What are they? Who knows???? CHANGES The "loading please wait" display while going down ladders was rep…
- ICON-ic update, August 2019! - 4 August 2019
Hello! Here are some real barn burners (well, maybe). And I'll try to list them all as fast as possible as I'm in a super hot-ass room for the wifi and gotta' hurry the hell up! NEW https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F26672817%2F743262579344ca83020f79cad3e47c5972ce0b75.jpg +New Icons for many things, including ATK, DEF, MDEF, TRAPS, GOLD, and FOOD. Looks a lot better! Additionally, these same icons are also shown on the 'Remove Gear' screen (see below). https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F26672817%2F0c068fc6a5bcc430cef3ede9bafa70f8ac04f76a.jpg +New Daily Bonus, "XTP Bonanza". Every August 5th & 6th. Starting a new game during this period and killing any bosses will get you an extra XTP point (for every boss killed). - Upon Reflection.. - 13 July 2019
Have you WAITED around too long for another update like this guy? https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F26672817%2Fcd2705b2ded430a9e69bcd8270540067c50c372d.jpg Dad jokes never get old, do they? Well wait no more! It's not a super huge update however it's a super important one. I was playing this a bit today and saw that my Warding Vest (with a 5% chance to reflect enemy spells) was reflecting those spells EVERY SINGLE TIME. https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F26672817%2F4e0dde112b6b4b5b0bd7a6833ee763c6bd95acb1.jpg 5% my ass... Yeah, oops! There are 3 items in the game that give the player this power: The Warding Vest (5%), the Wizard's Crown (10%), and the Mirror Shield (20%). Of course they stack! Anyhow these now work as intended. I hope you didn't have a run going that exploited this, cos' now you'll be in for it! A friendly rem…
- Another May Update! - 18 May 2019
Here's some more stuff that I think helps improve things: HP Balance https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F26672817%2F757e5a126282798a1aacd60423081f50d0d6d3ff.jpg Every class minus the Cultist has had its starting max HP reduced (ex. The Warrior in this picture went from 30 -> 25). Challenge is good! Fire Prone Gear https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F26672817%2F9187a7f705fbb84e5a29b11dbd834726802d7633.jpg Though you could always look at your Special Screen and see if you had fire prone gear equipped, there's now an icon on the main screen that tells you too. This is much better, and probably should've been added at the start. If for some reason you're also under the effect of a Resist Fire effect this prone icon will STILL show up- This is to inform the player that though your wooden items are temporarily protected that resist fir…
- May 2019 Update! - 11 May 2019
It's been a little while, but here's some fun tweaks for the game. https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F26672817%2F7214fce89c60d96251b4772bc9022f49411724e5.jpg Gold Chests The chances for gold chests to spawn per floor has been slightly reduced. But the chances for better things from gold chests has been increased. I feel this is a pretty good trade-off! Hero Gear Most of the special orange tagged Hero Gear has been improved. I left Voltia's Ring along since it was already really good. The remaining items are.. Equin's Axe Was ATK 15 / STR +2 Now it's ATK 17 / STR +4 Reena's Killer Was ATK 24 / STR +2 / DEX +2 Now it's ATK 30 / STR +2 / DEX +5 Rol's Hat Was DEF 1 / Evade +12% Now it's DEF 1 / Evade +12% / Gold +15% Dirn's Platemail Was DEF 12 / STM +10 Now it's DEF 12 / CON +4 / STM +10 Serkious' Armor Was DEF 8 / XP & Gold +15% Now it's DEF 8 / MDEF 5 / XP &…

I would highly recommend checking out any of our community guides but for sure make a stop and take a look at the Beginner's Guide. https://steamcommunity.com/app/547980/guides/ While in the game itself, there's a handy tutorial section which goes over lots of different aspects of the gameplay without being super spoilery- https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F26672817%2F3aa596e4dadac906d4c0927b2b8a5bb7b7eb9868.jpg Since the game first arrived on Steam in 2016, ETL has received many (many) awesome content updates.
