- Goofy puzzler Wattam is now out on Steam, too - 18 December 2020
Wattam , the silly puzzler about combining strange sentient objects, originally came out a year ago. It’s been scloosies with the Epic Games Store for the year, but hey you can now find it over on Steam. It’s currently 50% off on both stores, so now’s as good a time as any to snatch up this cute pile of poop, flowers, and balloons. (more…)

- Have You Played… Wattam? - 11 December 2020
Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day, perhaps for all time… It’s difficult to describe Wattam without sounding like you’ve gone completely insane during lockdown. At first you play a lonely green cube called Mayor whose only wish is that he had a friend to share his existential misery with, but within a couple of hours you’re parping golden turds, sticking sentient eyes, a nose and a mouth on a terrifying doll’s featureless face, and flying across the vast cloud sea separating the game’s four islands on the back of a giant toilet. It’s exactly the kind of fever dream you’d expect from Katamari creator Keita Takahashi, but man alive if it isn’t one of the weirdest games I’ve ever played. (more…)
- The joy of harmless griefing in Wattam - 27 January 2020
Griefing, a term applying to any bad faith behaviour in an online game, whether it s ruining things for your group or harassing other players, has reared its ugly head since early MMOs like Ultima Online. The behaviour existed even further back in MUDs, text-based multi-user dungeons, before the term griefing had been coined. Yet, going by the popularity of Untitled Goose Game , there s clearly a perverse pleasure in bringing chaos upon a community. Which brings me to Wattam, a game of action, exploration and puzzles, and like Untitled Goose Game, it’s an offline game that could be viewed as a microcosm of online spaces. Think of each of Wattam’s sandbox islands as a server and the hundred-odd objects around the world as its users. While the core of Wattam is about building connections with each other, it s also about explosions and poops, sometimes at the same time. (more&h…
- Wot I Think: Wattam - 16 January 2020
Developer: Funomena Publisher: Annapurna Interactive Release: Out now On: Windows From: Epic Games Store For: 16/ 20/$20 There’s a certain degree of weirdness you’d expect from a Keita Takahashi game. Whether it’s creating planets by rolling up the world’s detritus (with the occasional screeching human and puzzled animal in tow) in Katamari Damacy , or using an LED controller to get naked while brushing your teeth in Tenya Wanya Teens , Takahashi’s games have always baffled and bemused me in equal measure. They also tend to make me laugh a lot. I lost count of the times I sat there chuckling to myself playing Katamari Damacy ReRoll last year, and I was hoping Wattam , his latest game about a lonely green cube called Mayor who’s in search of some friends, would put an equally big smile on my face. Spoilers: it did not. (more…)
- Wattam, from the designer of Katamari Damacy, is out now - 18 December 2019
Winter may be here to stay for a bit but there’s some stray sunshine to be found in Wattam , the bright little puzzle game that will feel immediately familiar to anyone who played Katamari Damacy years ago on the PS2. Or, heck, last year’s re-release on the PC. Wattam has a similar fascination with things that would normally be inanimate objects like toilets, trees, and emoji-like piles of poo. You’ll use each one and their unique abilities to solve puzzles for your colorful friends. (more…)
- Wattam's non-stop wobble party hits PC next month - 11 November 2019
Winter’s hit like a brick this year, and it’s about time we were owed a little sunshine. It warms the heart, then, to discover that joyous friend ’em up Wattam was given a release date earlier today. Arriving in the grim heart of December, mere days after the country plunges into a miserable election, I think we’ll all need some time to go morris dancing with an ice cream cone. (more…)

- Wattam coming to the Epic Games Store in December - 25 September 2019
Bright and bouncy befriend ’em up Wattam is expected to hit the Epic Games Store in December, according to a tweet by its publisher, Annapurna Interactive. There’s no word on whether Epic plan to hit it back. I won’t lie. I’ve been paying this no attention whatsoever, but even just a few moments of the below trailer was enough to convince me I should. It came out during the PlayStation State of Play livestream last night, but we won’t hold that against it. (more…)
