  • We built another ecosystem. This one has sprites. - 20 August 2026

Nine years ago you took an interest in a game about polygons eating polygons. That is still the largest group of people who ever have, and we have never quite got over it... We have built something new - Now instead of polygons it's sprites eating sprites..Captain Contraption's Safari Park is a park management game with a properly simulated ecosystem underneath it - no fences, no enclosures, no way to tell an animal what to do. Every creature is an individual now, so herds have stragglers and wanderers. Territories pass down through generations. Creatures sleep. Fights end in routs and chases instead of always ending in a corpse pile. The playtest is now permanently open to everyone. Free, no invite, no deadline. If you know what a food chain looks like just before it falls over, we would really value your eyes on this one.

  • Wishlist our next ecosystem game! - 7 January 2026

Hey everyone!Just wanted to quickly let you know about our next game, Captain Contraption’s Safari Park, which we’ve just put up on Steam. It's somewhat of a spiritual successor to Intelligent Design: An Evolutionary Sandbox. It’s a safari park management game built around a fully simulated ecosystem. You run a park where animals (and some less sensible things) live together in open spaces. Expect farm animals, lions, dragons, and the occasional questionable decision. If that sounds like your kind of thing, you can check out the Steam page and trailer below. Wishlisting the game helps a lot and means you’ll get notified as we share updates and open the beta. Thanks for all the support — genuinely means a lot.

  • Community Screenshots - July 2019 - 31 July 2019

For a while Dave and I have been trying to figure out what we could do community wise with Intelligent Design. With our other game Cycle 28 we always try to post the monthly leader boards to encourage some friendly competition. That kind of thing doesn't fit with Intelligent Design since it's meant to be a relaxed experience. Something I often do is look through the community screenshots of ID on steam. I know some people disagree but I genuinely love the look of this game, and clearly people have put the effort into taking great shots of their evolving worlds. ...so I thought I would try to set aside some time each month to pick out a couple of shots I really like and share them with you. I probably won't write too much, but just share these shots. Feel free to discuss them in the comments! https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F28664931%2F632f2b8d93157bb5b71d%25E2%2580%25A6

  • Patch Notes 12/10/18 - Plus Support Cycle 28 in the GDWC2018 Fan Favourite Vote - 12 October 2018

Patch Notes Population counters are now checked for error once per in game day. The time acceleration may be introducing slight errors which will grow over time on extreamly long runs. This sanity check should deal with those errors. Creatures can now no longer see things which are far above or below them, such as on the cliffs in the new map. Our other game, Cycle 28 has made it to the final of the GDWC2018 fan favourite award. If you could support us by clicking the image below and voting for Cycle 28 we would really appreciate it. If you haven't bought Cycle 28 you can get 20% off in the Pill Bug Interactive Collection. https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F28664931%2Fbaa9cebf1aca288b6bac6f7e34a3e96cf54bf6c3.png

Short description

A toy ecosystem with fully simulated genetics and evolution. Will you tinker with DNA or sit back, relax, and see if life finds a way?

About this game

In a universe driven by targets, a faceless corporation has employed you to create an evolving ecosystem you will never control. Intelligent Design: An Evolutionary Sandbox is a god game with fully simulated genetics and evolution. Create species of plants, herbivores and carnivores, release them into a world, and then find out what evolution does with them. Evolution isn’t just a mechanic. It’s a simulation. Every organism's behaviour comes out of its genes. How tall will a plant grow? How fast can a herbivore run? How often does a carnivore go looking for prey? Those genes pass down generation after generation with random mutations, and there is nothing underneath them but the simulation. No tricks, no statistical approximations, no scripted events waiting to fire. Leave a world running long enough and species will speciate, boom, crash and go extinct without you touching anything You will spend a lot of time watching... which is the point. This is a slow simulation. Populations take generations to change. Your role is to seed a world, change something small, and come back later and see what happened. One of our players leaves it open on a second monitor during work, I leave it on my TV while I’m cooking. If you’re looking for objectives, scores and explosions this is not that kind of game (but we do make those). Genetically modifying creatures and crops have real consequences. You can engineer the genetics of organisms directly, but you should do that carefully, because once a genome is loose in your ecosystem it is very hard to control. And do you even know what those genes do? Getting a food chain to balance is satisfying. Watching that same food chain collapse in 2 minutes because you made the equivalent of a spelling mistake is, we’d argue, even more satisfying. Before you buy This is for you if: you have heard of SimLife, SimEarth, Creatures or Framsticks; you find a population graph more interesting than a quest marker; you are happy leaving a simulation running while you do something else. This is probably not for you if : you want goals, a story or a win screen; you want something to happen in the first ten minutes; you want the game to tell yo…

Price History Overview

USD uses SteamPulse's own locally recorded daily store snapshots, so this overview reflects the exact regional price history that SteamPulse has captured for this currency.

Coverage And Tracking Window

  • Snapshots: 1
  • Coverage: Sep 25, 2026 to Sep 25, 2026
  • Lowest observed: $0.76
  • Highest observed: $0.76

Intelligent Design: An Evolutionary Sandbox's USD price history spans from Sep 25, 2026 to Sep 25, 2026, with 1 recorded snapshot across 1 calendar day. Each row records the available final price, listed base price, and discount metadata for that observation. Within this coverage the lowest recorded price is $0.76, the highest is $0.76, and the first visible tracked price is $0.76. These comparisons apply only to the snapshots SteamPulse holds; missing observations can contain changes that are not represented here.

For USD, SteamPulse uses locally captured regional storefront snapshots and does not reconstruct older prices with exchange-rate conversion. The chart and table show the values recorded for this exact currency from the stated coverage start. Additional snapshots extend that record, but they do not fill unobserved days or prove what the storefront displayed between observations.

Discount Windows And Sale Timing

  • Discount windows: 1
  • Discounted days: 1 day
  • Deepest markdown: -89%
  • Latest sale window: Sep 25, 2026 to Sep 25, 2026

SteamPulse has grouped rows carrying discount metadata into 1 recorded discount window, covering 1 calendar day and 1 discounted snapshot. The deepest recorded markdown is -89%, with a lowest recorded final price of $0.76 during rows named Steam sale. The latest recorded window starts Sep 25, 2026 and ends Sep 25, 2026, spanning 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking. Window boundaries follow the available snapshots, so gaps in coverage can make an actual sale shorter or longer than the recorded span.

Recorded sale names include Steam sale. The table reports the observed markdown, final price, snapshot dates, and any sale name supplied with the row. It can show whether similar discounts recur in the retained record, but it does not infer publisher intent, demand, or the reason a price changed.

Observed Price Changes And Stable Runs

  • Observed price drops: 0
  • Observed price rises: 0
  • Longest stable run: 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking
  • Current run: 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking

Outside rows carrying discount metadata, the tracked price has not recorded a separate price rise or drop yet. That means the observed undiscounted level has stayed stable across the snapshots SteamPulse currently holds. This is a statement about the recorded coverage only; it does not prove that an older or missing price change never happened.

The longest unchanged price stretch in the current record lasts 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking at $0.76, from Sep 25, 2026 through Sep 25, 2026. The latest run records $0.76 for 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking with a listed discount from $6.99. Run lengths describe consecutive stored observations only and do not establish that a price is permanent.

Latest Snapshot And Sales Context

  • Current price: $0.76
  • Current list price: $6.99
  • Distinct observed prices: 1
  • Source mode: SteamPulse local tracking

The latest tracked snapshot records Intelligent Design: An Evolutionary Sandbox at $0.76 in USD, with a listed base price of $6.99 and a -89% markdown. Across the available history SteamPulse has recorded 1 distinct final price in this currency. This supports comparisons with the lowest, highest, and most common values present in the retained record, subject to the stated coverage limits.

The live sales view and Steam sales record provide calendar context for these dates. A date overlap can be compared with a named Steam event, but it does not prove why a publisher changed a price. As new daily rows arrive, this overview recalculates its observed prices, discount windows, and run lengths automatically.
